James R. Brown Landscape Artist

Artist's statement

I am a Canadian landscape artist, who graduated from The Ontario College of Art. I have always been drawn to the beauty of nature particularly when it is in a pristine state untouched by the human hand. There is so much beauty in this world and not enough of us are fortunate enough to escape into it from our cities, glass, and steel.  With my art, I strive to bring raw and natural beauty inside to be enjoyed by all. I paint in oil in all seasons often starting from plein air sketches and ending with larger studio works. I enjoy painting in the varying and challenging landscapes of Ontario's Haliburton Highlands and across Canada. Canada's many hiking trails and canoe routes allow me to go to remote locations near waterfalls, granite outcroppings, and interior forest landscapes. The adventure of finding the next painting excites me, and the challenge to capture and translate what I see and feel is ultimately the objective of each of my paintings.  I paint almost daily. I paint what I feel, what I see, and what inspires me.  There is nothing better than Canadian landscape for inspiration.
